PLEASE SUPPORT THE JOHN HENRY MEMORIAL FUND!

If you purchase the CD:
"The Ballad of John Henry", written, produced and sung by Joe Keene, portions of the proceeds will go to the JH Fund to pay for the bronze statue standing in front of John~John's paddock at the Kentucky Horse Park. John lived there from 1985 until his death in 2007.

To contact Mr. Keene:
KSS Recordings
704 Park Avenue
Kennett, MO 63857
Phone: (573)888-3032
Email: dkeene@clgw.net

The cover describes how Mr. Keene was inspired to write this ballad. He had just watched John Henry win his second Arlington Million. The lyrics were put to paper on August 27, 1984.

The song was made as a 45 RPM record, but did not do well. Mr. Keene was disappointed. He felt only Ron and Debbie McAnally, Ron's stable crew, and Mr and Mrs Sam Rubin were the only people who cared about John's accompishments.

I contacted Mr. Keene this year. After several conversations, he agreed to record the ballad as a CD.

The documentary crew, Open Sky Entertainment, have also been in touch with Mr. Keene.

The CD may also be purchased at the Kentucky Horse Park gift shop, and Old Friends in Georgetown, Kentucky.

If you live near Tempe, Arizona, the restaurant John Henry's will also have the CD available.

Mr. Keene hopes to have these available at various race tracks. You may contact Mr. Keene regarding the retailers or vendors involved.

The cover of the CD is taken from the painting done by the famous equine artist Donald R. Schwartz of Southern California. Mr. Sam Rubin commissioned Mr. Schwartz to do an oil of John Henry while he was living at the Kentucky Horse Park. This painting was also made into a lithograph which are sold by Mr. Schwartz. They are numbered and signed.

Don can be reached at:

Your support would be greatly appreciated. If you are a retailer and are interested in selling the CD, please contact Joe Keene. Please inform him that you read about the CD on the John Henry blog.

Thank you!
